The Cavill Avenue project in Ashfield brought together residential design requirements with the challenging ground conditions typical of Sydney's Inner West.

Inner West Geology

The Inner West features variable geology, including zones of Ashfield Shale that can be highly reactive and weathered to significant depth. Our geotechnical investigation identified the specific conditions at the Cavill Avenue site and determined appropriate foundation solutions.

Structural Design

The residential building was designed as a reinforced concrete flat plate structure, providing efficient construction and clean ceiling lines for the apartments above. The basement was designed for the geotechnical conditions identified during investigation, with appropriate provisions for waterproofing and drainage.

Neighbourhood Integration

Ashfield is a well-established suburb with a diverse community. The engineering design considered the impact of construction on neighbouring properties, including pre-construction dilapidation surveys and construction methodology that minimised noise and vibration.
